Interior Painting
A genre depicting the interior spaces of buildings

Interior painting is a genre of fine art dedicated to depicting the interior spaces of buildings. Such works show the architectural space, furnishings, decorative decoration, and atmosphere of a room. This genre originated during the Renaissance and reached its peak in Dutch painting of the 17th century.
Masters of interior painting, such as Pieter de Hooch and Jan Vermeer, carefully worked out light, perspective, and the object environment, creating a sense of coziness and privacy. Interiors of churches, palaces, and private homes became independent subjects, along with historical and genre scenes.
By the way, in the Baroque era, interior painting was often used to create illusory continuations of real architectural spaces in palace halls. This technique was called quadratura, and it amazed viewers with its optical verisimilitude.
