Description

Exceptionally rare hand-painted glazed porcelain figurine, model No. 93 "Lieb Garde Hussar" or "Lifeguard Hussar of Livonia", by Theodor Kärner. This figurine was introduced in 1939, as shown in the reconstructed list of pre-war production models up to the end of 1939. Known production records indicate that only eight painted versions were produced during 1939. The figure depicts a soldier of an 18th-century Prussian Hussar regiment, whose duty was to provide mounted bodyguard protection for King Frederick II (The Great) of Prussia during 1740-1786. The word "Hussar" refers to light cavalry, while "Lieb Garde" means "life guard" or "bodyguard". This piece was first exhibited at the Allach Porcelain Factory display in the House of German Art, Munich, in 1939. It was also featured as an advertisement for Allach porcelain in the Grosse Deutsche Kunstausstellung (Great German Art Exhibition) catalog. Beautifully painted and detailed. Height: 33 cm or 13.25 inches. Close-up view shows exceptional detail to the hat emblem, tassels, and plume. The extremely rare white glazed porcelain version, model No. 93, by Theodor Kärner, was also introduced in 1939, with records showing only twenty-one white versions produced that year. Superb craftsmanship. Height: 33 cm or 13.25 inches.
