The oval bowl features a striking decorative rim. The tall domed lid is topped with a rounded handle set with a large oval malachite. The body is fully decorated with an attractive hammered texture and set with cabochons of malachite, jasper, and hematite. Engraved on the side of the bowl: “Wanderpreis der Kölner Zeitung Verlag M. Du Mont Schauberg für unbeschränkte Zeitfahrt im Freiballon” (Wandering prize of the newspaper publisher "Kölner Zeitung" M. Du Mont Schauberg for unlimited journeys in a free balloon), along with a relief coat of arms featuring archers, stars, and mountains. Gilded interior. 800 standard silver, maker's mark.
