Statuette by Dashi Namdakov "Nobleman" Material: Silver; casting, chasing, patination. Dimensions: 31 x 20 x 36 cm Before us appears an old man in lavish warrior armor, with a battle bow behind his back and a shield adorned with a fearsome zoomorphic mask. His headdress is decorated with a sharp finial and braids symbolizing animal horns. The hero’s pose and entire appearance convey self-confidence, indicating that his past feats have tempered his character and granted him dignity and self-assurance. The old nobleman holds the battle bow as a customary attribute, even if it has become only decorative.
Biography: Dashi Namdakov (born 1967 in Ukurik, Chita region) is a Russian sculptor, artist, and jeweler, a member of the Russian Artists Union. He graduated from the Krasnoyarsk State Art Institute, Sculpture Department. His art knows no bounds: neither territorial, spatial, nor temporal. His art fascinates: it is both attractive and unusual. The phenomenon of Namdakov as an artist lies in his preservation of national traditions, yet he presents them in a completely new, avant-garde style. His technique is inimitable: his sense of form, sculpture, movement, proportion, and harmony is academic, yet full of unique character and meaning. The combination of classical, traditional East and familiar European civilization in Dashi's art gives it unique individuality, style, and originality. Images of the past are easily found in Dashi Namdakov’s works. Nevertheless, Dashi is a prominent representative of contemporary art. His works seem to revive “forgotten” shapes and plots from ancient times, bringing their energy, strength, and power into our world. The ancient and forgotten become an organic part of Dashi Namdakov’s art style. Dashi Namdakov’s first solo exhibition took place at the Irkutsk Art Museum on February 16, 2000. The exhibition was a great success leading to an invitation to exhibit in Moscow. Dashi’s exhibition, alongside other young Russian sculptors, was displayed at the Central House of Artists. The capital’s residents became acquainted with Dashi’s art, and thus began his nomadic artistic life. Since 2000, Dashi has held numerous exhibitions worldwide, from Tokyo and Beijing to New York and Los Angeles. He has exhibited in museums such as the State Hermitage (Russia), the Beijing World Art Museum (China), in galleries such as Halcyon (UK), National Arts Club (USA), and participated in national showcases like the Russian National Exhibition (France).
