RUSSIAN ICON MOTHER OF GOD IN SILVER ENAMEL OKLAD
An antique 19th-century Russian Orthodox icon of Mother of God with Baby Jesus, Hodegetria iconography. Mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood board. Gilt silver riza or oklad with repousse decor, frame type. Hallmark of 84 silver standard and makers marks are on the side of the riza. The backside of the icon is covered with velvet.
