From the KPM Berlin collection. Urbino Vase. On an octagonal, stepped pedestal with a round base, an ovoid body with rounded shoulders, a recessed neck, and a wide flaring rim. On the sides, ascending curved handles in the form of a spiraling pair of snakes, with a relief of overlapping leaf motifs. On both sides of the vase, a large arrangement of roses in pastel tones of watercolor. Surrounding the vase is a stylized gold decoration of palmette friezes, wave bands, pearl strings, and vine ornamentation, as well as gold staffage. Designed by Julius Wilhelm Mantel in 1855.
