A few large magnificent KPM Berlin amphora vases.

5 780 400.00

In the style of Italian majolica, there is a depiction of putti in the "Urbino Vase". It stands on an octagonal base with a rounded foot, an ovoid body with a rounded shoulder, a tapered neck, and a wide flared rim. Spiraling acanthus leaf tendrils with mask-like heads wind around the lip. The wall is atmospherically and diffusely designed, permeated by moonlight, with dark clouds and floating or turbulent waves carrying dolphins, presumably as an allegory of the elements of air and water. The neck and foot are adorned with broad floral and stylized ornament borders. The fine polychrome painting is in the style of Italian majolica. The form is attributed to Julius Wilhelm Mantel. Scepter mark. Height: 61 cm. Created in the KPM Berlin around 1860, during the general Renaissance enthusiasm, vases, jugs, and plates were produced based on the model of the Urbino majolica from the 16th century, the first versions of which were presented at the International World Exhibition in London in 1862. See Kollmann, Berlin Porcelain, Vol. I, p. 199, Kollmann/Jarchow, Vol. I, p. 89ff, Vol. II, No. 561ff. A pair of large, splendid Italian majolica style amphora vases with scenes of cupids. Scepter mark. KPM Berlin. After 1870.
