Futurism

An avant-garde movement in 20th-century art

Futurism

Futurism is a bold avant-garde movement that emerged in the early 20th century as a reaction against traditional art. Futurist artists celebrated speed, technological progress, and the dynamism of modern life. In painting, they sought to show movement and energy by breaking forms, using vivid colors, and repeating elements to convey the sensation of motion in time and space.

Among the well-known representatives are Umberto Boccioni and Giacomo Balla.

Amusingly, the Futurists were so enamored with technology that they even tried to 'make' paints vibrate!

This movement had a huge influence on the development of abstract and Constructivist art, as well as on design and architecture. Another interesting detail: Futurism linked art with politics, which often sparked controversies and heated discussions in cultural circles of that time.
