Porcelain plaque. Portrait of Georges Charles d'Anthès. 1835. Delicate hand-painted porcelain in the romantic Rococo style. Inscription: H.A. Jung No. 5 1835, on the reverse of the plaque. Plaque dimensions: 9.5 x 7.5 cm. Georges Charles d'Anthès (February 5, 1812 – November 2, 1895) was a French officer of the Imperial Guard, monarchist, and Catholic by faith. In the 1830s, he served in Russia in the Cavalry Guards Regiment. Adopted son of the Dutch diplomat Louis Heeckeren. He was married to Ekaterina Nikolaevna Goncharova, the elder sister of N.N. Pushkina. He is known as the man who fatally wounded A.S. Pushkin in a duel. After the duel, he was stripped of his ranks and expelled from Russia.
