Porcelain Figurine

An object of decorative and applied art made of porcelain

Porcelain Figurine

Porcelain figurine is a small-scale sculpture made of porcelain, popular in Europe since the 18th century. They depict people, animals, fairy-tale characters, everyday or pastoral scenes. Famous manufactories that became renowned for their figurines include, for example, Sèvres and Limoges in France. Special attention is paid to detail: folds of clothing, facial expressions, complex poses.

Collecting porcelain figurines is a worldwide hobby, and the price of rare pieces reaches astronomical sums, especially if they are works by famous sculptors or exist only in a single copy. In the 19th century, English and German figurines made characters the heroes of satire — many depictions of characters with grotesque facial expressions still bring a smile today.

The porcelain figurine is the embodiment of elegance, the taste of the time, and the technical perfection of the craftsmen.
