Campana

Special type of conical porcelain items

Campana

Campana is an exquisite form of a vessel or bowl inspired by the outlines of an ancient bell. Its wide, smoothly flaring walls and stable base made the campana popular in decorative silver of the 17th–19th centuries. In such items, craftsmen embodied harmony of proportions and the shine of metal. This form can be found in silver goblets, lampadas, vases, and trophies.

The feature of the campana is the combination of solemnity and practicality. In the era of classicism, such objects adorned palace interiors and often became a symbol of an award or memory of a significant event. The neat line of the profile allowed craftsmen to experiment with ornament — engraving, embossing, or gilding. Today, the campana remains an example of an elegant form where the simplicity of the silhouette merges with the brilliance of the finish.
