Glazing
Method of applying transparent paints in layers

Glazing is one of the most interesting and expressive techniques in painting, based on the application of thin translucent layers of paint that create depth and richness of color. This method was used by many masters, including Rembrandt and Vermeer, to add complexity and variety to their works. When using glazing, the artist applies a first layer, and then, after it dries, applies a thin layer of another color.
This creates an effect of chiaroscuro and allows colors to "show through" each other. This technique requires patience and skill, since with each layer, the decision to make changes can dramatically affect the final effect of the work. Glazing also allows achieving unique shades that cannot be obtained using a single color.
For example, applying transparent blue over yellow can create a magnificent green shade with special depth. This method helps to convey light and atmosphere, making paintings more alive and realistic.
