Palette

Palette — not only a wooden or plastic board on which the artist mixes paints. It is an important part of the creative process, and sometimes an independent element of painting culture. The size and shape of the palette are determined by individual working habits: some prefer the classic shape with a thumb hole, others use glass, porcelain, or even paper palettes.

The color of the palette itself is not accidental: it should be neutral so as not to distort the perception of the color of the mixture. Surprisingly, in some workshops of the 19th century, palettes were collected and displayed as commemorative souvenirs — because traces of genuine strokes of great masters remained on them. In our time, the palette has also become a symbol of artistry — recall the emoji that is often used to denote creativity and inspiration.
