Shabby Chic

Shabby Chic is a popular trend that emerged in the 1980s, inspired by aged luxury. It is used in painting, designer interiors, furniture and porcelain decoration. Important features: artificial aging of objects, distressed finishes, pastel palette, elegant ornaments and floral motifs. Often, to create the effect of a "grandmother's chest," items are coated with several layers of paint, edges are sanded, decorative cracks are added — a special patina of time appears.

Decorative items in shabby chic style are recognizable by their romantic, slightly vintage mood.

Interestingly, when the style first appeared, many considered it a sign of poverty, but now old shabby-chic tableware at auctions can be more expensive than new ones.
