A funny humorous scene – a sorceress in a robe and a headdress made of thus far unmentioned plants is grinding a poisonous potion in a mortar, which she uses to poison rats (since hemlock is the strongest plant poison!). One rat lies lifeless, another is vomiting from the recently ingested poison, and a third, dressed in a Roman toga, is still drinking the deadly brew from a cup. Interestingly, the entire scene takes place in an ancient Roman setting (in the background, we can see an aqueduct). On the back, there is an inscription "Schierling" (which means "hemlock" in German). The artist was inspired to create this scene by an illustration from the book "Living Flowers" (1847) by the renowned French caricaturist of the early 19th century, Jean Granville. The porcelain is of magnificent quality, fully hand-painted, featuring a monogram at the top (it is possible that the plate was made to order as part of a table "botanical set" for teaching botany to the children of a wealthy family).

The combination of the double blue underglaze mark (a scepter and a round mark featuring the Prussian eagle and the abbreviated name of the manufacture) along with red decoration allows this remarkable rare item to be dated to the mid-19th century (1849-1870).

Diameter - 21.5 cm. The indicated price is for one plate.

The second plate "Tobacco" is from the same series.

A funny humorous scene – a girl dressed in an outfit made of tobacco leaves and a wedding headdress stands surrounded by a formally dressed beetle and snail. It seems that the beetle is the groom. He is smoking a pipe, and the scene takes place among tobacco bushes. On the back, there is an inscription "Taback" (which does not need translation).
