Cup volume: 300 ml, height: 11.5 cm, diameter: 9.2 cm, saucer diameter: 18 cm. RPM (Royal Porcelain Manufactory) O.H.G. was founded in the city of Küps (Bavaria) in 1955. The company’s name was somewhat misleading, as it had no connection to royalty and never produced anything itself. The only accurate part of the name was the designation O.H.G., since the company simply traded high-class porcelain decorative items (fireplace sets, vases, etc.) that were specially marked for this company. Around 1961, the Royal Porzellan-Manufaktur opened a subsidiary in the USA in the form of a small porcelain shop on 5th Avenue in New York. Unable to overcome the widening gap between the styles demanded by US customers and the products supplied by German manufacturers, the subsidiary closed after just three years. Meanwhile, the Royal Porcelain Manufactory O.H.G. managed to secure a small niche in the German market, supplying small shops with mid- and high-class decorative items. The company never became well-known or very successful but managed to survive despite the costly mistake on the US market. The development of the porcelain market in Germany between 1960 and 1970 is difficult to explain. In short, this period saw not only the collapse of standard mail-order businesses but also a general change in the product range. It was the main period of the so-called "medieval modern" era, characterized by a blend of design and ceramics. Typical porcelain items lost much of their position, and many small companies associated with porcelain were forced to close. This development led RPM to shift its market segment focus toward inexpensive gifts, souvenirs, and marketing materials. On January 1, 1973, a merger took place with a similar enterprise, Porzellanmanufaktur Klaus Cutik, resulting in the creation of Royal Porzellan (Manufaktur) G.m.b.H., which ceased operations in 1996.
