ALFEROV SERGEI ALEKSANDROVICH

Description

Alferov Sergey Alexandrovich. A large collection of Alferov's works is available for sale; pricing and photos of the works are available upon request.

In his work, a peculiar blend of high aestheticism and folkloric sources emerges, alongside modernist intricacies, Dadaist sensitivity, the depth of symbolism, and the tangible quality of Russian lubok, as well as the pictorial refinement and “rough” concreteness of graphics. However, all of this is far from the dilettantism of a searching neophyte; it is not eclecticism but rather a transmission of immense spiritual experience—a deep introduction into the sacred and the secret, an approach to the beginning of all beginnings.

Sergey Alferov is one of those people that can be described as slightly out of touch with this world. His lifestyle is uncomfortable and irrational. He has renounced everyday comforts, settling in one of the artist communes on the outskirts of Moscow among wandering philosophers, hippies, vagrants, and eccentric painting enthusiasts. His bed is a sleeping bag. His table is a box from glass containers. Yet he is open to all cosmic energies, absorbing them with eagerness and desire, hurriedly seeking to grasp and encapsulate the revelations he receives.

However, Sergey Alferov is not simply a medium, coldly and dispassionately recording the directions of astral winds. His gaze is primarily directed towards the most ancient recesses of consciousness. From lost centuries and civilizations, he draws what is extremely relevant today. He feels compelled to decipher the signs of the deceased and non-existent, perhaps even unconsciously and fragmentarily reproducing these obscure symbols, allowing the artist to connect with higher powers. Along the way, he draws us, the viewers, in as well. Here, the level of our “intellectualism” is not important—after all, prayers are also uttered by those who do not understand the meaning of the words they compose.

Magic is, in principle, accessible to everyone. The difference is that we draw "circles," "crosses," and "triangles," without any thought about the consequences (it simply does not occur to us). The initiated, however, approach the matter with professionalism. Thus, a meeting with their energy…The creativity aches the heart so sweetly. Only by loving this world superhumanly can one learn to transform simple, unadorned things into global, generalized categories. For the burdened, careworn citizen, a whale, an elephant, or a turtle are merely zoological specimens. And how few, alas, are the madmen left who, without a shadow of a doubt, consider them the sacred foundation of the earth's solidity.

Fortunately, Seryozha Alferov is one of those "misguided" individuals (he paints turtles that encompass the entire universe at once). His "inner" subjective experience is so blended with the "outer" objective reality that one involuntarily recalls the original dialectical postulate about nature creating humanity for the purpose of knowing itself. It is not the artist's fault that the reality he has uncovered does not align with commonly accepted notions.

To what extent is Sergey Alferov's art national? On one hand, it is convenient to answer this question by referring to the cosmic nature of the Russian soul (whatever one says, his work has captured and reflected the scents of many "distant, wondrous lands"). On the other hand, he is so "dissolved" in primitive esoteric traditions, so spiritually assimilated that, at first glance, he seems to have irreversibly atrophied ethnically. Nevertheless, his retreat into "inner emigration" has not resulted in a break from the "Russian quintessence" – and one must at least have a slight understanding of the nuances and subtleties of the Eastern, euphoric worldview to discern, through the blurry outlines of Andersen's spires and attics, the romance of other geographical spaces, to feel the sharp scent of the wild Polovtsian steppes, and to hear the soft whinnying of mares grazing in the night. Truly, the more fantastic and unattainable the goal that Russian artists set for themselves, the further their rebellious spirit wanders from their native soil, the more they feel at home, the more bizarre, profound, and unique the legend they create becomes, and the more significant their contribution to the treasury of world culture.

Sergey Alferov, this solitary Russian half-Daos, half-Sufi, walking with...With a holey umbrella through the centuries and legends, it gives us its tender, touching revelations and... calls us into the boundless, unknown expanses.
