LOY Nikolai Pavlovich 1925 - 2004 People's Artist of Russia. His paintings have been showcased in over 150 exhibitions. Reproductions of his works and articles about his creativity have been published in many popular newspapers and magazines: "Izvestia," "Trud," "Ogonyok," "Smena," "Moscow," "Friendship of Peoples," "Artist," "Soviet Union," and others. Today, the paintings and watercolors of N. Loy are held in many private collections and national museums in France, Canada, the USA, the Netherlands, Japan, Austria, Finland, and Cuba. As some of the finest examples of Soviet painting, the works of N. P. Loy were gifted to Fidel Castro, Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau, and the French communist newspaper "Humanité." In 2002, several of his best paintings were presented to Russian President Vladimir Putin by the governor of the Stavropol region, A. L. Chernogorov, as a gift.

He was born on February 16, 1925, in the city of Melitopol in the Zaporizhia region of Ukraine. In 1943, he went to the front and fought until Victory Day. He finished his military service in 1950. In his maturity, he enrolled in the Kharkov State Art Institute, graduating with honors in 1955. Loy arrived in Norilsk in 1960, where he founded a children's art school and a studio of visual arts in this polar city. For many years, he served as the chairman of the city art council and exhibition committee and was elected to the city council of Norilsk.

He worked in the Far North for 20 years, from 1960 to 1980, making the Arctic his creative homeland. He traveled extensively by dog sleds, reconnaissance aircraft, reindeer, and the nuclear icebreaker "Lenin." He painted en plein air in Dixon and many polar stations, the Severnaya Zemlya, and Franz Josef Land. In 1968, he undertook a road trip through all the republics of the Soviet Union. For nearly ten years, Nikolai Pavlovich worked in Krasnoyarsk. There, he was elected vice chairman of the Krasnoyarsk organization and Union of Artists of the RSFSR, became a board member, and served on the regional exhibition committee.

Since 1987, he lived in the city of Slavyansk-on-Kuban. During this time, he established ongoing exhibitions of his works in schools, cultural centers, and a children's art school. Over 70 works have been donated to the Slavyansk Historical and Local History Museum. Nikolai Pavlovich has been awarded eleven government honors, the Medal of the Peace Fund, the Gold Medal "Laureate," and commemorative medals for his participation in art exhibitions. In 1976, he was awarded the title "Honored Artist of Russia," and in 2003, for his outstanding contribution to the development of the country's culture, he was granted the title "People's Artist of the Russian Federation." He is the only artist in the North Caucasus to hold such an honorary title.
