Anatoly Ladnov is a recognized master of thematic easel paintings, the author of canvases of historical and modern content, portraits bright in psychological characteristics, lyrically soulful landscapes. He is the only painter from the galaxy of Chelyabinsk masters who was awarded the honorary title of "People's Artist of Russia" (2007) for his selfless long–term and fruitful creative work in the field of fine art.
With an exhibition launched in the Exhibition Hall of the Union of Artists of Russia, the master celebrates his next anniversary – the 80th anniversary of his birth. And, what is very pleasing, the artist is as always energetic, cheerful, emotional, and efficient. The main part of the paintings presented at the exhibition – the results of the last few years of work are offered to the viewer for the first time.
Inexhaustible creative energy, dedication and dedication of the artist, indefatigability, great diligence, high demands on oneself, self–forgetful and courageous service to art is a worthy example for modern creative youth to follow.
Persistently and persistently, day after day, month after month, he fulfills the task set for himself in his distant youth. To work, regardless of health problems, problems with the environment, problems in the state, overnight destroying not only the existing system for many years, but also ruining all labor savings to the ground. In this he is helped by a character hardened by sports. He is not relaxed by the recognition that has come to him now and the well-being that has been achieved. He is not inclined to "rest on his laurels" in his 80 years.
He sets himself new goals, new tasks and successfully solves them. Tirelessly starts large canvases. Systematically and consistently performs them in the workshop. And only when the dominance and hustle of the city bring him to the limit, he, in his own words, breaks into nature to write sketches. Every time, with the greed of a starved man, he pounces on the first, most unpretentious natural motive and cannot stop. Regardless of the time of year and the degree of favorability of the weather forecast, he rushes to protected places on his battered UAZ. He himself hails from Miass. Many times he wrote here, it would seem, every blade of grass. Often, getting up at five o'clock in the morning, he manages to capture the mystery of the awakening of nature. He is passionate about the search for new artistic discoveries in the ordinary, seemingly familiar and has long been seen by everyone. He writes with delight, with a phenomenal speed that has already become legendary.
Anatoly Ladnov rejects all offers to use photography, which has recently become popular with artists, when working on a landscape. Every year he makes 5-6 trips to etudes at different times of the year, bringing several dozen completely finished landscapes. Considering them only as improvised auxiliary material for working on genre works, the artist clearly underestimates the importance of this genre in his work.
With a sensitive soul, he catches the subtle poetry of the Ural landscape: a simple village street with elegantly painted houses, languishing in a deserted calm under the scorching rays of the sun; a village suburb peeping through the transparent greenery of the first foliage that has just emerged; a dense thicket of forest pierced by a sunbeam that has broken through the thickness. He manages to convey the poetry of the melting silver of the morning lake, the richness of the color of the moisture-soaked, bare autumn forest that has shed its bright outfit.
The water in the landscapes of Anatoly Ladnov sometimes boisterously rushes along the stone rifts, then slides along the forest shores with a measured smooth movement of the elastic surface, then reflects the overturned sky with a mirror of the lake. A symbol of the variability of the world, it is present in most of its landscapes, like a magnet attracting the artist with its mysterious depth.
Anatoly Ladnov likes to write moments of awakening of nature, when the pre-dawn silence and peace are broken at once by the noise of birds, and the deep twilight explodes with fireworks of the color of the first rays of the sun splashed from the horizon, snatching the tops of fir trees and the distant shores of the lake, which broke out in the fire of the morning.
In his landscapes, one can feel the inaudible flight of time over the dormant, dilapidated village houses surrounded by the majestic celebration of nature.
Anatoly Ladnov's landscapes awaken in us a sense of our native landscape, native poetry. They help us, living on the run, stop for a moment and remember our native songs, remember who we are, where we come from, where our roots are, what's in our genes. He retains kinship with Russian writers, poets and artists in harmony with their high feelings and thoughts, with their sensitive attention to everything that happens in nature. Ladnov manifests himself as a lyricist in his works. He sees poetry in the ordinary – "the poetry of life."
His painting is a direct continuation of the traditions that go back through his teacher V.G. Tsyplakov to the great Russian artists B.V. Johanson, I.E. Grabar, up to V.I. Surikov.
Anatoly Ladnov, a graduate of the painting faculty of the Surikov Moscow Academic Art Institute, carefully preserves the traditions of the Russian realistic school of painting, embodying them in his works.
A great portraitist, as evidenced by the canvas "In the Workshop" (2010), easily and freely works on still lifes, which are presented in abundance at the exhibition. The artist persistently sets himself the task of creating large genre paintings. The artist's constant theme is the life of ordinary inhabitants of his native side. The current cycle is also "Ural". "Rowan beads" (2010) are warmed by the warmth of the charm of village girls, perky, funny and mischievous, knitting a simple decoration in the multicolored autumn herbs. "The Forge" (2010) is filled with the warmth of memories of his childhood, of his grandfather's forge, respect for the memory of his grandfather, a man of remarkable strength, able to shoe a horse, not tied to the machine. In the "Forge", the Ural landscape is sensitively guessed, which determined the life of the future artist in his early childhood.
His works are recognized by the picturesque handwriting and temperament peculiar only to him. They are beautifully solved tonally, denounce the author as a virtuoso draughtsman.
In the works of Anatoly. Ladnova keenly feels the desire to serve the ideals embodied in classical art. All this gives his works the value that is characteristic of works of genuine art.
